Ocean Guardian is our new long range shark deterrents targeted at boating, fishing and beaches. The products will be Powered by Shark Shield Technology based on our twenty years of designing and developing the worlds only scientifically proven and independently tested electrical shark deterrents.
Our new products represent a significant breakthrough in long-range shark mitigation systems with the ability to deter sharks at up to 50 metres (100-metre diameter). This is the ultimate solution; creating a beach barrier to replace shark net, drum lines, protecting surfers and swimmers alike.

To date we have relied on killing sharks through netting and drum lines. Along with the environmental damage caused to shark populations, these methods continue to have significant environmental consequence for other animals such as dolphins, seals, turtles and whales, often referred to as bycatch, they are collateral damage. Conversations continue to be pursued on shark culling as an option, and in some cases this option has already been pursued.
The new Ocean Guardian product range is based on our twenty years of knowledge in developing proven electrical deterrents and now enables the construction of cost effective electromagnetic beach barriers in any sea state or location to replace shark nets and drum lines, and prevent shark attacks.
Our solution has a positive environmental impact on marine life by not only reducing the number of sharks killed annually in nets and drum lines, but also protecting other marine life such as turtles, whales, seals and dolphins, killed or injured using existing shark mitigation approaches. For example, in Queensland, Australia there are 366 drum lines and 6.5kms of nets.
This technology is not science fiction. It is rooted in robust, proven science with the first product already manufactured. This transducer technology is currently successfully used in the medical industry with clinical studies showing it is safe for humans and animals.
In 1995 it was discovered that sharks have a heightened sensitivity to low frequency electrical fields. Two decades of intensive global research has developed this knowledge into a reliable and essential piece of equipment that protects visitors to the ocean and the sharks that live there. Our new Ocean Guardian range of products expands on the Shark Shield’s history and knowledge of developing the worlds only scientifically proven shark deterrent technology.
The new Shark Shield Ocean Guardian technology uses an innovative metamaterial transducer to produce a powerful electromagnetic field so that when a shark comes within approximately fifty meters of the LR10000 (one hundred meter diameter), the strong electromagnetic pulses emitted cause the shark to experience muscle spasms.
The LR10000 model can generate electromagnetic field of up to 20 uV/cm (micro volt) at 30 meters distance (radius) in saline water conditions using ultra high frequency. As a reference point, 20 uV/cm is approximately 4,000 times higher than the sharks lowest know electrical sensitivity of 5 nV/cm (nano volt). The ultra high frequency enables the distance into the water as the carrier, and very low modulation 1.75 HZ allow excitability of ampulla of Lorenzini, which are sensitive to low frequency, similar to a human heart beat. The approximate range to repel sharks is 100 meters distance (diameter).
The electromagnetic field does NOT harm the shark in any way, but merely causes it to experience a high level of discomfort. From testing, the closer the shark is to the Shark Shield field, the more spasms occur in the sharks’ snouts, which results in it turning away from the electromagnetic field, thereby protecting the user. Clinical studies have also shown the electromagnetic field is safe for humans.
